Fall in Breckenridge is one of those hidden gems the locals might not want you to know about. It is filled with perfect weather, so much to do, and way less crowds. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Exactly, so this fall come join us for our favorite season in the mountains and make sure you try these 5 activities while you’re here!
(1) Fall Foliage in Breckenridge
One of everyone’s favorite parts of autumn is the leaves changing! Young or old, we all seem to be completely enthralled by the vibrant colors of the changing leaves every time September and October year after year.
Breckenridge is such a beautiful setting to take in the majesty of this leaf metamorphosis! Whether you are driving through the area, hiking/biking any of the many trails offered in Summit County, or just taking a stroll down Main Street in Breckenridge, you are going to be blown away by how beautiful the fall foliage makes your setting for any activity!
*Insider tip: Rockies are home to the Aspen tress which turn a fiery gold, orange and red color. Try the Aspen Alley hike or bike while you are here to get the best look at this fall foliage.
(2) Hot Air Balloon Rides
You are never going to go wrong with the amazing views across the Rocky Mountains! Summit County offers some of the most beautiful views of the mountains and landscape in the area. One of the most spectacular ways to experience these views is from a hot air balloon flying 9,000 – 10,000 feet above sea level.
Colorado Balloon Rides offers an amazing early morning ride which includes breakfast, champagne, and some incredible views of the mountains and the changing leaves in the beautiful Summit County autumn!
(3) Early Fall Whitewater Rafting
Typically the whitewater rafting season in Colorado is wrapping up by the time fall rolls around. This season, however, is a different story! The massive amounts of snow that fell in the area last winter is making our river water for rafting last much longer this season than in recent past years.
Just a short drive from Breckenridge, you can find awesome fall rafting trips. Head down to Buena Vista and raft through beautiful Browns Canyon or head north to Kremmling and enjoy the Colorado River through October. You will not regret getting out on the water at what the locals call the perfect time to raft.
* Bonus Activity: Both in Buena Vista & Idaho Springs you can zipline and via ferrata which offers some phenomenal views of the landscape!
(4) Fall Festivals
Breckenridge has some of the best festivals & events in the fall! There is something for everyone, and an event option for pretty well anytime you are looking to visit Breckenridge in the fall. Here is a list of some events to choose from:

(5) Get Outside
Any trip you make to Colorado at any time of the year has plenty of dynamic, outdoor activities that are sure to capture the interest of any member of your traveling group!
Summit County offers hundreds of miles of hiking/biking trails that all sport amazing views, many of which begin or end directly in the city of Breckenridge. Breckenridge offers mountain biking until early September.
Skiing and snowboarding will start to be available in Breckenridge in late fall on November 8th. There are plenty of shopping/dining options on Main Street Breckenridge, and window shopping along Main Street is always a great time!
